tech questions

That aside... .... I can't watch them!! :O T_T I figured -- nay, KNEW my home computer would have troubles with this (I can't watch them at ALL at home), as it's ollllld, and I seriously need an upgrade/replacement, but I figured my computer at work should handle the files fine. Okay, sure... sometimes the computer is slow, but...
.... lag, lag, LAG! x.x; The audio blasts on WAY ahead of the images. Sometimes, the images even pause, then jump ahead. It's hard to read, hard to watch, hard to enjoy. ;__; I've downloaded the latest version of WinAmp on the work computer, but the video doesn't advance AT ALL on it, for some weird reason. I use Windows Media Player (version 10.0) by default, and I've also tried Real Player (version 10.5), and both lag terribly.
The computer has a total of 19 Gigs, 6.30 of which are actually USED... and is running Windows XP. I'm not sure of the other stats of this/work computer... (ie: RAM and all that)... but... oi. I would have figured it wouldn't lag so badly. T__T (I wanna watch GF! *cries* XO)
Any advice? Suggestions? .... Also, suggestions on what sort of computer/system I should be looking into getting for myself? ^^; (that would RUN files like these?) I prefer custom-builds, since you can put in exactly what you want/need... :/ But a store-bought is still a possibility. I'm more used to/prefer a PC over a Mac... (just the interface, more than anything... I think c.c)
Edit: Hmm... addendum to this... Tried playing ep.5 on my home comp (that's as far as I am right now), and it's working. Might be lagging slightly (I stopped to make this edit)... Probably will lag, so.... ahhh...! I don't know. @_x;
(still know I need a new computer c.c;)
edit edit: Okay... So I've watched eps. 5 - 8 on my home comp... and they work just fine, thankfully... and there's no lag, save for the opening, transformation sequences and the force chip sequences, sometimes (and really really action-packed scenes, occassionally). Gonna run one of those eps on the work comp. If it lags.... ...WTF?! That computer is newer, more up-to-date programs... I don't get it. @_x
