OMG... were they awesome! :D So beautiful... so touching... I think the tributes to Nodar Kumaritashvili were very respectful. All the dances, performances, and musical spots were fun, exciting, awe-insipring and amazing to watch at spots. Loved the Native dances. Loved all the fiddling! :3 Loved k.d. lang's song spot. Loved a lot of those interpretive pieces... with the snow opening, the animals in the stars in the crowd and then the large bear... those beautiful fall scenes... the mountains with the sports scenes projected on them and all the rollerbladers... It was ALL just awesome! XD
It's always great to watch all the athletes walk in. :)
And the lighting of the torches is also ALWAYS awesome and inspiring to watch. I loved the final choices: Rick Hansen, Catriona Le May Doan, Steve Nash, Nancy Greene, and Wayne Gretzky. Too bad about the glitch with the hydraulics, at first slowing the ceremony, then that 4th post not rising... Only a minor bump in an otherwise incredible Opening Ceremonies. To watch the crowds cheering and chanting "Gretzky! Gretzky!" while running enthusiastically alongside the truck as they drove him down to light the outdoor cauldron in the pouring rain... to see all the cheer and joy and emotions in all that? It's just simply incredible.
So proud to be Canadian right now. :3
