origin of name: I know Spanner's been used offically, before, in the TF comics... ^^; But hey, they've re-used names before. ;p I wanted something related to building and construction, something simple, and rather gender-neutral. I started calling her that, randomly, and the name just stuck. ^.^;

facts on creation: I wanted a character that played on the notion that gender, to Transformers, is very much a mental thing, and not physical. (though, granted, even Cyberton-only TFs still seem to be heavily influenced, from somewhere, on having gender identifications) Spanner originally was to be a gender-neutral character; a rather feminine robot mode, but a definate "masculine" vehicle mode. Spanner wouldn't refer to 'him/her-self' in either the masculine or the feminine, and would instead actually get quite confused about such topics, at the start. For a while, I didn't know if I wanted to keep Spanner as a gender-neuter, or choose a gender that s/he'd eventually fall into. I didn't just want a "tomboy" character, or a tough femme, or anything like that. Spanner eventually 'became' female, but I wanted a character who willingly chose to be a "female" -- who otherwise wouldn't be bound by/to/focus on gender signifiers/tradtions.

backstory: Spanner may (or may not) have been created on Cybertron, but EARLY on was taken off-planet, and developed on a planet that had no gendered creatures. Thus, there were no female/male social norms for him/her and the others to base their developments on. Spanner just did whatever s/he wanted to and felt like doing, not limited that his/her actions were "feminine" or "masculine". Spanner grew up a little 'rough around the edges', dealing with some other hard-headed members of his/her group, in the construction field... but was kind to his/her friends, and enjoyed the occassional quiet moments away from the construction sites.

forestory: To be honest, I really have no idea where Spanner is going. ^^; When s/he comes to Earth - or even Cybertron - naturally there is going to be a LOT of confusion. ^^; Organics - and humans specifically - will BAFFLE her. She'll struggle to understand gender-stereotying, as s/he won't fit the mold in a couple of ways. It will be frustrating, at times, no doubt, until s/he understands the concepts of 'gender', and the others understand that Spanner doesn't care one way or the other for sterotypes, and to just take her as "s/he" is.

random answers to #7: As Spanner has no clue on gender, she'll make strong, fast friends with mech and femme alike. And if the friendship ever has the possibility of growing deeper, sees absolutely no problem with flirting/courting mech and/or femme alike. "A love is just a very strong friendship", and all that.
