This ended up being a little longer than a true 'drabble'. I went with an idea and ran with it. No ideas how it'll turn out/be interpreted, but... here you go. :/ Hope you like it. ^^; ((also, left the 'speaker' vague; it could be either Astrotrain or Skyfire. ^^;))

They couldn’t understand. No matter what sort of flowery language you might use to describe it. Only a special few could ever understand.

The push of your engines behind you; the force of gravity straining against that. That moment of breaking through a planet’s atmosphere…

…and the sensation of infinitely falling. Seeing a world all spread out below you, following its graceful curvature in a controlled, continuous free-fall. On the cusp of atmosphere and endless space. Caught between the constraints of the earth, and the freedom of the stars.

Spaceships and shuttlecrafts were no substitute. Oh, sure, the same sort of thrill could be provoked; the same sense of wonder. But it just couldn’t match up to achieving orbit with one’s own body.

Just a tiny tilt one way, and one would be pulled back down to the ground. A tilt the other way, and the infinity of space stretched out before you. And stuck in the middle, that choice; to be restrained, or fly free, where all routes were open for exploration.
